Cetera Advisor Networks broker Jaret Mutter has been the subject of seven different customer complaints. According to his BrokerCheck report, many of the complaints allege that he participated in the misrepresentation and unsuitable recommendation of unit investment trusts, or “UITs”.
In April, the Virginia State Corporation Commission initiated a regulatory action against Mutter, ending with requiring him to be placed under special supervision for a year. This supervision requires all of his transactions and investment advice to be pre-approved by the firm, requires the firm to conduct three unannounced inspections of his office, review all correspondence, all complaints against him must be reported, all bonuses be reported, requires him to sign an affidavit of compliance, and removes him from certain supervisory duties.
In 2016, a FINRA arbitrator awarded a customer damages who alleged that Mutter committed certain sales practice violations in their dealings. Mutter’s former brokerage firm, Suntrust Investment Services, Inc. settled an additional four customer complaints related to Mutter’s conduct.
